Corrective Jaw Surgery

Various abnormalities in the face and jaw may cause discomfort, embarrassment, or difficulty chewing and speaking. “Orthognathic” means “straight jaws.” Corrective jaw surgery is called orthognathic surgery. It corrects jaw and facial deformities.

Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons can reposition the facial bones to restore proper function and facial appearance.

What are jaw abnormalities and what causes them?

Abnormal jaw and facial development can be genetic or acquired due to disease or injury.

When the jaws are not properly developed or proportioned it causes problems such as:

  • Difficulty chewing
  • Jaw and facial pain
  • Speech abnormalities
  • Dental problems
  • Unwanted facial shape or appearance

Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons can reposition the facial bones to restore proper function and facial appearance.

Can braces fix my jaw abnormalities?

Corrective jaw surgery is most often done in collaboration with an orthodontist. When braces alone cannot correct the problem, orthognathic surgery may be required.

It is an honour to be included in your healthcare team.
